REX Minerals – 3D Seismic Identifies Growth Potential At Hillside

Background

Rex Minerals Hillside project is one of Australia’s largest undeveloped open pit copper projects situated on the Yorke Peninsula in South Australia. The copper-gold resource is within the eastern Gawler Craton which hosts other large Copper deposits such as Olympic Dam, Prominent Hill and Carrapateena.

“This recent 3D seismic survey could be a game changer for Rex…the information obtained shows features which are known to be associated with mineralisation extending well away from existing drilling, confirming potential extensional drill targets.”

Solution

HiSeis was commissioned to provide a 3D seismic image of the structural and geological setting over 3km x 2km x 3km area. The objective was to understand where possible extensions may exist. Automated technology products FAULT-MOD and SEISOMICS were used to aid interpretation

Outcomes

Geological interpretation from 3D seismic provided valuable insight into the key features that control the copper mineralisation at Hillside. It also identified several new key target areas, numerous faults in the host rock and a large body potentially representing the intrusive “source rock”. Drilling has since validated the seismic model and identified seismic signatures of known mineralisation.

Automated fault modelling (FAULT-MOD) used to understand impact on mineralisation at Hillside.
